The Light Meter Watch by Increment Labs is claimed to be the world's first timepiece with a built-in light meter. The concept emerged from founder Rich Soler's struggles with manual photography, leading him to wonder about measuring light everywhere. The project, developed with university friend Eddie Wells, is the result of 18 months of prototyping and interviews with photographers.
The watch features a light sensor, aperture and shutter priority modes, a red backlight, and a golden-hour alarm. However, specific details like whether it measures incident or reflective light are still unclear. The product is not yet available but is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter in the second quarter of 2026.
Currently, the team is testing materials and building prototypes. Interested buyers can join a VIP list for a 40% discount or place a small deposit to lock in a guaranteed price of around $150, significantly lower than the planned retail price of approximately $185.
