A New Challenger Enters the Ring

Earlier this year, a comparative analysis was conducted between the original Xreal One Pro AR glasses and the Viture Beast, widely considered one of the top premium options available. That initial contest saw the Viture Beast take the lead due to its competitive pricing, superior technical specifications, and greater versatility. Recently, Xreal launched an upgraded version of its flagship product, the Xreal One Pro Plus, featuring a significantly improved display and enhanced comfort. The question now is: has this update finally allowed Xreal to overtake its rival?

Xreal One Pro Plus: Improvements and Features

The core specifications of the Plus model remain largely similar to the original, retaining the advantages that were previously praised. However, Xreal has made substantial refinements:

  • Enhanced Brightness: Increased from 700 nits to 1,200 nits, bringing it much closer to the performance of the Beast.
  • Improved Display Modes: The addition of Reading, Standard, and Movie modes significantly enhances versatility, making tasks like reading websites or eBooks much more comfortable.
  • Advanced Processing: The built-in X1 chip now facilitates real-time 2D-to-3D content conversion at 60FPS, compared to the previous 30FPS, resulting in a smoother visual experience.

While the One Pro Plus retails at $599, users seeking advanced spatial anchoring (6DoF) will still need to purchase the optional $99 Eye Camera. Without this accessory, the glasses are limited to 3DoF, which can struggle with stability when used on moving vehicles.

Viture Beast: Maintaining the Lead

The Viture Beast remains a formidable device, particularly for those prioritized entertainment and gaming. While Xreal has narrowed the gap, the Beast still holds a slight advantage in several key areas:

«Despite Xreal's updates, the Beast is still slightly better spec-wise. They feature a slightly wider 58-degree field of view, 50 nits higher brightness, better sharpness and color reproduction when it comes to gaming and streaming.»

It is important to note that the Viture experience is heavily reliant on the Spacewalker app for features like multi-screen support and 6DoF tracking. While this software provides extensive utility, it can lead to compatibility hurdles on certain devices or restrict specific features, such as 3D movie playback, to the proprietary browser.

The Verdict: A Matter of Preference

The update to the Xreal One Pro Plus brings it on par with the Viture Beast, making the choice between the two a matter of individual preference rather than a clear technical hierarchy. Both devices offer premium features like electrochromic dimming and high-quality audio.

For most consumers, these premium models may offer more capabilities than necessary. Both companies offer excellent, more affordable alternatives in the $299 price range—such as the Xreal a01+ and the Viture Pro 2—though these budget options do come with a more limited field of view compared to their higher-end counterparts.
