New SSD Solutions for Modern NAS Setups

Sandisk has officially unveiled two new SSD product lines specifically engineered for Network-Attached Storage (NAS) environments. These drives, branded as the NAS 600 and NAS 800, cater to the needs of creative professionals, small businesses, and prosumers who require reliable, high-capacity storage for continuous operation.


The NAS 600: A SATA-Based Upgrade

The NAS 600 series utilizes a standard 2.5-inch, 7mm SATA form factor, making it an ideal choice for users looking to transition from mechanical hard drives to solid-state technology. Available in capacities ranging from 500GB to 4TB, these drives offer consistent sequential read speeds of 560 MB/s. Their endurance metrics are robust, spanning from 350 TBW for the entry-level model to 2,500 TBW for the 4TB variant, with a Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) rating of 2.25 million hours.


The NAS 800: Performance via PCIe 5.0

For high-performance requirements, the NAS 800 series leverages the M.2 2280 form factor and PCIe 5.0 connectivity. This lineup includes capacities of 960GB, 1.92TB, 3.84TB, and a flagship 7.68TB model. The performance figures are striking, with sequential read speeds reaching up to 14,900 MB/s. Furthermore, the 3.84TB model is capable of achieving 2.3 million IOPS for random reads, positioning it well for data-heavy tasks like virtualization, AI, and complex content creation.


Unrivaled Endurance for Heavy Workloads

A standout feature of the new lineup is its exceptional durability, designed to handle the constant data writing typical of intensive NAS environments. «The way users employ NAS has fundamentally changed,» stated Anil Moolchandani, vice president of product management at Sandisk.

The flagship 7.68TB NAS 800 drive boasts an endurance rating of 14,000 TBW (14 PBW). This effectively allows for approximately 7.67 TB of data writes per day over a five-year period, assuming an evenly distributed workload. Both series utilize advanced TLC 3D NAND technology to ensure reliability under pressure.

The new drives are set to hit the global market in September through the company's official website and select retailers. The pricing structure is as follows:

  • NAS 600: Starts at $179.99 for 500GB, scaling up to $999.99 for the 4TB model.
  • NAS 800: Starts at $309.99 for 960GB, with the flagship 7.68TB model priced at $2,199.99.

While the flagship NAS 800 model carries a premium price, Sandisk emphasizes that these drives provide a necessary performance and longevity upgrade over standard consumer-grade alternatives.
