A Fresh Look for Smart Home Management

Samsung has officially released a comprehensive redesign of its SmartThings application for Android devices. Following its initial debut on iOS, this update brings a more streamlined and efficient experience to the broader Android ecosystem, allowing users to manage their connected home more effectively.

Refined Navigation and Customization

The core of this update centers on a modernized interface. One of the most notable changes is the implementation of a floating navigation bar. This design choice results in a more compact layout, providing additional screen real estate for your controls and functional elements. Furthermore, the dashboard and individual cards now offer greater flexibility, allowing users to resize and rearrange them according to their personal preferences.

Enhanced Home Dashboard and Efficiency

The updated Home tab now features a dedicated header area, designed to present pertinent information at a glance, such as real-time weather updates and personalized routine recommendations. Additionally, the new Favourites section serves as a hub for pinned devices and frequently used routines, ensuring quicker access to your most essential smart home tools.

Efficiency has been improved through denser card layouts:

  • Simplified Controls: Device cards now support one-tap toggling directly from the dashboard.
  • Immediate Action: Routine cards are interactive, allowing you to trigger them with a single click.
  • Global View: Due to the reduced size of these elements, users can now view a larger portion of their smart home network without extensive scrolling.

Upgraded Remote Capabilities

The integrated TV remote has also undergone a redesign. It now includes a new light mode option and, consistent with other interface elements, it can be customized in terms of size and position to better suit the user's specific layout requirements.

Availability

The updated SmartThings experience is currently reaching Android devices running application version 1.8.51.30. While the rollout timeline initially favored Apple users, the Android version now offers a feature set nearly identical to the iOS counterpart.
