Optimize Your Tactical HUD

While Star Wars Zero Company—often affectionately dubbed "ZCOM"—is clearly inspired by the tactical depth of the XCOM series, some of its design choices can feel slightly off for veteran strategy players. Specifically, the default radial menu used for selecting character actions, while well-suited for gamepads, can become a source of frustration during intense combat scenarios.

Navigating back and forth between targets and the character-centric ability ring often disrupts the flow of gameplay. Fortunately, the developers have included a simple fix for those who prefer a cleaner, more traditional interface.

How to Enable the Linear Menu

If you are looking to streamline your experience, you can easily toggle the UI setting:

  • Open the Options menu.
  • Navigate to the Gameplay tab.
  • Scroll down to the General section.
  • Locate Ability Selection Style and switch it from Radial to Linear.

Once enabled, your actions—such as movement, attacking, and overwatch—will be neatly arranged in a numbered bar at the bottom of the screen. This layout keeps the center of the display uncluttered, allowing for much better visibility when you are trying to calculate precise attack angles or tactical positioning. For those who can't decide, there is also a Hybrid mode available.

"Linear Ability Selection just feels better," particularly for those playing with a mouse and keyboard, offering a more intuitive command structure for tactical maneuvers.

Whether you are a newcomer or a long-time fan of the genre, making this small tweak can significantly enhance your efficiency on the battlefield.
