A New Chapter for Analog Photography

Following the popularity of the viral Kodak 'Charmera,' the brand has expanded its lineup with a new offering for film enthusiasts: the Kodak EC35. Unlike the half-frame Kodak Ektar H35, this latest model is a dedicated full-frame 35mm film camera, providing a traditional shooting experience at an accessible price point.

Design and Usability

The EC35 embraces a classic aesthetic reminiscent of legendary point-and-shoot models from the 90s. It features a convenient slide-out cover that protects the lens, drawing design inspiration from icons like the Olympus Stylus Epic and the Contax T3. Weighing only 102g and measuring less than 42mm in depth, it is built for portability.

As a true point-and-shoot device, the camera is designed to be user-friendly, stripping away complex manual controls in favor of automated systems. Users simply slide the front cover to prepare the device, with auto exposure, automatic flash, and fixed focus handling the technical settings.

Optical Performance and Build

The camera is equipped with a 25mm f/10 lens. Notably, the lens is constructed from acrylic rather than glass. This design choice aims to replicate the distinct, nostalgic aesthetic often associated with disposable film cameras, offering a unique look for every shot.

While the camera is manufactured by Reto—the same licensee responsible for other popular Kodak film cameras—it distinguishes itself through a purely manual film winding mechanism. This differentiates it from the slightly more expensive Kodak Snapic A1, which offers automatic winding and additional focus options.

Pricing and Availability

The Kodak EC35 is positioned as a budget-friendly option, with a retail price of approximately $35 / £35. For those looking to get started immediately, the manufacturer also offers a bundle priced at $45 / £45, which includes the camera, a strap, and a roll of film. The product is currently available for purchase through major online retailers in the US and the UK.
