Last Friday, Microsoft announced a major leadership shakeup for Xbox, with Phil Spencer retiring as CEO and Asha Sharma taking over, alongside shifts for Matt Booty and Sarah Bond. Despite Sharma's focus on games and the future of play, concerns linger due to her communications and AI background.

Former Microsoft gaming VP Ed Fries, who helped launch the original Xbox, believes Sharma's lack of gaming experience can work fine. He compares the dynamic to his own past collaboration with Robbie Bach, where one focused on content and the other on business.

Fries emphasizes that Matt Booty brings deep gaming expertise, while Sharma can manage corporate relations. As long as both respect each other's strengths, the structure should succeed. He adds that Sharma is bright and capable, citing anecdotes from her time as an intern.

Windows Central's Jez Corden also supports this view, noting Sharma's skill in building scalable social systems like Facebook Messenger could help Xbox grow. Ultimately, only time will reveal the success of this new leadership team.
