“Let's be honest: not everyone gets excited about opening Terminal. Until now, that's exactly what macOS users had to do to use TrustTunnel. With version 1.2, those days are over.”


This update eliminates the necessity for intricate terminal commands or manual configurations when managing a self-hosted VPN server. By providing a clean, graphical user interface (GUI), AdGuard has successfully translated high-level network-bypassing technology into a user-friendly format.


Bypassing Deep Packet Inspection

The core advantage of TrustTunnel lies in its capability to evade deep packet inspection (DPI)—a rigorous monitoring technique utilized by restrictive networks to detect and throttle conventional VPN traffic. The protocol ensures stealth by routing connections through TLS using HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 standards.


To network administrators or firewalls, a TrustTunnel connection appears indistinguishable from standard, legitimate HTTPS browsing. Because it mimics common web traffic, it is significantly harder to identify, monitor, or block.


Enhanced Features and Troubleshooting

Beyond the interface, version 1.2 introduces several quality-of-life improvements:

  • Status Visibility: A menu bar icon allows users to monitor their connection status at a glance.
  • Startup Integration: Options for automatic launch at boot and immediate auto-connection upon opening the app.
  • Streamlined Diagnostics: A new “Export logs” feature in the settings menu makes it easy to share error data with support teams, replacing the previous method of manually searching through hidden system files.
  • Improved Clarity: The “Query log” has been renamed to “Connection log” to help users better understand the data during troubleshooting.

This release reflects AdGuard's ongoing commitment to making advanced privacy tools accessible across all platforms, following the expansion of its VPN services to the Microsoft Store and the release of dedicated mobile applications.
