Continued Multiplayer Dominance
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 continues to prove its longevity as a multiplayer powerhouse for Saber Interactive. Despite launching as a traditional linear action title, the game maintains a robust player base, recently peaking at over 21,000 concurrent users. This performance notably outshines several high-profile multiplayer releases from the past year.
Much of this success is attributed to the developer's aggressive update strategy. By consistently delivering new missions, enemies, and classes for its cooperative mode, the game has adopted a content cadence typically associated with dedicated live-service titles.
Patch 13.0 and Siege 2.0
The latest update, patch 13.0, introduces a substantial amount of new content, headlined by the Siege 2.0 revamp. Key additions include:
- New Operations Mission: Players can now tackle 'Purgation,' a mission set in the Kadaku swamps focused on reclaiming a Mechanicus facility.
- Battle Simulator: A dedicated space to hone combat skills against enemies before deploying into live missions.
- Quality of Life: Improved customization options and the ability to switch perk loadouts mid-session.
The Siege 2.0 overhaul specifically aims to increase the intensity of horde sessions. Developers have introduced a system of blessings and atonements that grants players new perks every five waves, while simultaneously increasing the challenge through more frequent boss encounters.
Regarding the design philosophy, Saber noted:
"The goal is to make siege mode sessions quicker and more intense, while also giving players more options for build crafting to make each run different."Due to these extensive gameplay changes, save files related to wave progression have been reset, requiring players to prove their skills anew.
Free Trial and Limited-Time Offer
To attract new recruits to the front lines, Saber Interactive has launched a free trial. This limited version provides access to two campaign missions, three operations, and the complete suite of PvP modes. Players convinced by the trial can purchase the full game at a significant 70% discount, bringing the price down to $18 (£16.50). This promotional offer is scheduled to conclude on June 3.
