Just five months after the early access release of the Skate reboot, Electronic Arts is restructuring development studio Full Circle to 'better support Skate's long-term future.' This restructuring includes layoffs, as confirmed by a euphemistic message from the studio: 'These shifts mean making changes to our team structure, and some roles will be impacted.'
The statement praised affected employees, calling them 'talented colleagues and friends who helped build the foundation of Skate,' and emphasized that the decision 'is not a reflection of their impact.' Despite the cuts, Full Circle insists work on the free-to-play, multiplayer Skate will continue, with the team aiming to 'move faster, listen more closely, and deliver consistently.'
Skate's player numbers on Steam have dropped significantly from a peak of nearly 135,000 concurrent players shortly after launch to a few thousand in early 2026. However, the game is also available on consoles and mobile devices, so Steam numbers don't tell the full story. In a recent development update, Full Circle outlined plans for Skate season 3, including a new roadmap system with 'in development' and 'on the radar' categories to manage expectations during early access.
The number of employees laid off has not been disclosed, and EA has been contacted for comment.
