At Mobile World Congress 2026, Chinese brand Honor unveiled its 'Robot Phone,' a device featuring a deployable robotic camera arm. The innovation aims to solve a key gap in mobile technology: while smartphone photography has been democratized, professional-quality video remains difficult for the average user.

The phone's rear camera module houses a robotic arm on a four-degrees-of-freedom gimbal system. This allows for real-time stabilization, AI-powered subject tracking, and automated cinematic camera movements like smooth rotations. Honor developed a micro motor, roughly the size of a one euro coin, to fit the mechanism inside the slim device.

Honor announced a partnership with professional cinema camera company ARRI for video processing. The goal is to enable users to easily create stable, well-framed video content—a skill increasingly important as social media shifts decisively toward video formats like Reels and Shorts.

Beyond functionality, the robotic arm exhibits expressive movements, responding to voice commands and even dancing to music. While not yet available for hands-on testing and slated for a release in the second half of the year, the Robot Phone represents a bold attempt by Honor to stand out in a crowded market and potentially revolutionize mobile videography.
